Mangaluru: National conference on ‘A Great Place to Work’ was inaugurated by Managing Director of MRPL, H Kumar by lighting the traditional lamp at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) College of Business Management, Post Graduate Centre for Management Studies and Research here, on February 19.
Pattabhisheka awards were given to students who had secured ranks in the university.
Faculty incharge, Dr Savitha Pereira briefed the students about the event and said that human capitol was a valuable resource which could be tapped by having a great place to work and the companies that had a great place to work were among the top companies that ran the market indices.
H Kumar in his inaugural address said, “When any student graduates from a college, he/she wants to be in a great place to work. A place becomes a great place to work, if both the management and employees contribute together. Ambience of the workplace, discipline of the employees, freedom to think, perfectly defined job roles, respect for the employee and an open culture at the organization are very important aspects that define a great place to work.”
Kumar further said that for any organization to succeed it was essential that the strategy of the company was known to each and every employee. Innovation was a must and it was not necessary that the ideas should be big, but even the simplest of the ideas could give scope for great innovations. “I believe that each and every student present will have a lot of ideas and will use them in building our nation in the future,” he added.
In his keynote address, Chief Human Resource Officer of Serco Global Services, Manuel D’Souza said, “Gone are the times when a great salary, strong workers union, security of the employee and retirement benefits defined a great place to work.” The experience of the employee when he/she visits the work environment will help him/her feel welcome and be productive in his/her work. Further a great leadership and a good HR team was also essential to define a great place to work.
Director & Professor- Finance SDM Institute of Management Development, Mysore, Dr NR Parasuraman, and Head- Human Resource Bio-Gen extracts Pvt Ltd., Dr Chaitra Shetty were the Chief Guests.
The Valedictory address was be delivered by Prof Cynthia Menezes from MBA Department Bangalore University and Mr Suhan Alva, HR Consultant, Mangalore was the Alumni Guest.
In the technical session’s eminent speakers like, Dr L.S. Ganesh, Professor, IIT Chennai, Dr M.C.Das, Management Consultant, Vijaywada AP, Ms. Anne Menezes, Motivational Trainer, Mumbai spoke on different issues as stated by Dr Devaraj K , Director and Dr Savitha Pereira, Faculty MBA Department, Coordinator of the conference.
