Mangaluru: Serial Thefts in Valachil Padavu in Arkula Unnerve Residents

Mangaluru: A series of thefts that have taken place in shops in Valachil Padavu in Arkula village on the outskirts has worried the residents. The area has a hilly terrain with lack of road connectivity with the highway and the city.

Thefts in many shops came to light on Thursday morning. A restaurant, a general store, a men’s hairdressing salon and others were broken into.

Items stolen include hard cash, cigarette packets, gold rings, PAN cards, ATM card and haircutting machines.

Cases have been registered at the Kankanaday rural police station. This station has one of the largest areas under its jurisdiction.

A proposal to set up new police stations at Kinnikambla Kaikamba near Gurupur and in Jeppinamogaru to ease the pressure on this station has been hanging fire for many years. The staff at Maroli station are facing problems of shortage of human resources and facilities.
