Mangaluru: The Midnight Ride! 70 Cyclists pedal to encourage Citizens to take up Cycling

Mangaluru: While most of the Mangalureans were in bed-some snoring, some having good dreams, some cuddling with their mates, some watching late night adult movies, some kids still playing on their video games, some dreaming in their own world etc- but on the other hand nearly 70 cyclists comprising of 9 ladies and 61 men took a midnight-ride pedalling about 30 kms to raise a awareness that cycling is good for health and people should know that cycling is safe and should be used to do your errands or commute to work.

Anyways this was not just a cycle ride, it was a completely different face of Mangaluru. Members of Mangalore Bicycle Club (MBC) organized a “Night Ride” on Saturday midnight-December 20th from 12.01AM to 2.00 AM. A group of 70 passionate cyclists who wanted to encourage Mangaloreans from all age groups to enjoy cycling with an objective of healthier lifestyle decided to take this ride. Through this night ride, they wanted to bring confidence in the citizens of Mangaluru that it’s safe and enjoyable to use cycling for various commutation needs in Mangaluru. Apart from these cyclists, celebrity Raksha Shenoy and Model Vardhan Pai also rode with the group to motivate the fellow cyclists and emphasize on the message of safe and enjoyable cycling in our city.

At the stroke of the midnight hour on Saturday, members of MBC who had assembled in front of the Mangaluru City Corporation building and started pedalling for a two-hour ride covering approximately 30 km criss-crossing Mangaluru. MBC founder member Ganesh Nayak speaking to Mangalorean.com said, “We as a group of passionate cyclists want to encourage Mangalureans from all age groups to enjoy cycling with an objective of leading a healthier lifestyle. Through this night ride, we would like to give confidence to citizens of Mangaluru that it is safe and enjoyable to use cycling for various commutation needs in our city. Also that the presence and participation of celebrity Raksha Shenoy and model Vardhan Pai will motivate fellow cyclists and emphasise on need for fitness in one’s lifestyle and also send the message of safe and enjoyable cycling in our city.”

The ride from MCC building proceeded towards Kottara, Kulur and then reached Chilimbi, touched Lady Hill, proceeded to Mannagudda, then on to Ballalbagh, proceeded to Mallikatte via PVS junction and from then on to Nanthur, Circuit House, Jail Road, and again towards PVS junction and touched City Centre, Fr. Muller hospital, Attavar, Wenlock Hospital, VT Road, Car Street, Mannagudda and culminated at Navabharat Circle-Kodialbail. At the end of the ride, pro-cyclist Donald Menezes was congratulated and felicitated for completing 10,000 in his cycling venture in a short span of time.

  2. Well done but take care dear friends. Mangalore is not a safe place anymore to go without some security. A little bit leakage of your plans would have created problems for your cycling.
