Mangaluru: Three Injured in Lightning Hit in Undivided DK District

Mangaluru: Surprise, off-season showers, accompanied by lightning and thunder, hit the coastal districts on Friday. The city had medium-intensity showers accompanied by lightning, thunder and powerful winds.

In 24 hours that ended at 8-30 am, Puttur registered a rainfall of 4 cms, regarded the highest in the state for the duration.

Champa (27). wife of Satish of Ballitota in Nada village near Beltangady, fell severely ill after getting the shock of lightning on Friday, while she was standing outside her house. She is being treated in Benaka hospital in Ujire.

Devaki Moolya (55) and her daughter Sunita (32) near Muloor in Udupi taluk, were hit by lightning, as they had just returned from a clinic in Kaup. Both of them fell unconscious. Immediate neighbours got them admitted to a private hospital in Udupi.

Reports of thundershowers have been received from Puttur, Bantwal, Beltangady, Dharmasthala, Sullia, Subrahmanya, Vittal, Kanyana, Punjalakatte, Mulki, Haleyangadi, Mukka, Bajpe and other places in DK district.

In Udupi district, rains hit Udupi town, Manipal, Brahmavar, Shirva, Kaup, Padubidri, Belmannu, Mundkur,Kumbhasi, Koteshwar, Kalavara, Siddapur, Jadkal, Kollur, Tekkatte and many other villages.

In Kasaragod, rain and lightning showers were reported from Adhur, Bellur, Bovikan, Mulleria and surroundings.
