Mangaluru: Two Arrested for Assault on Bunder Constable on Duty

Mangaluru: Two persons have arrested by the Bunder police in connection with the assault on a police constable who was on patrol on November 13 night, said police commissioner S Murugan in a press meet held at his office here, on November 16.

Addressing the mediapersons, Murugan said, “On November 13 at around 9:00 pm, when Section 144 was in force, after receiving information about some youth planning to disturb peace near Bluestar Hotel, the Bunder police rushed to the spot. When the police reached near Bluestar Hotel, they found 7 youth holding iron rods, wooden clubs and machete in their hands. As soon as they saw the police, all the seven started running from the spot. During the chase, one of the youth threw an iron rod at police constable Mahesh.”

Mahesh’s right leg was injured and he was unable to move due to the pain. He was then taken to the hospital.

In this case, two persons have been taken to custody. The arrested have been identified as M Arif (29), a resident of Ansari Road, Bunder and Ahmed Sharvan (23) from Jeppu Kudpady.

Bunder police inspector Shantharam and team carried out the operation and arrested the culprits. The search is on for the others accused in the case
