Mangaluru: Two Arrested for Damaging Banners Put up to Welcome Dr Zakir Naik

Mangaluru: Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik was scheduled to visit the city in a few days.

Some of his admirers had put up a banner on Lighthouse Hill to welcome him. However, some miscreants appeared to have damaged it.

Two persons involved in the act have been identified as Muttu Poojary of Pumpwell locality and Sharat.

Poojary has been arrested by the Bunder police while Sharat is absconding.

In the meantime, the city police have barred the entry of Dr Naik into the city, based on appeals from some organizations. Disturbance of law and order is said to be the reason for the restriction.

It can be noted here that the VHP had warned that their international-level leader Praveen Togadia would be invited to address a meet on the same of Dr Naik’s if the police gave permission to the latter’s visit.
