Mangaluru: A gang had arrived at the Alake market and attempted to murder Latish Naik on July 27.
As he walked with his friends Indrajit, Siddharth, Pratap and Mithun, a Maruti car hit him from behind. A group of men got down from the car and assaulted Latish with machetes.
They attacked Indrajit who tried to save Latish. Thereafter the gang fled in the same car. In their attempt to flee, the car broke down at Mannagudda. Finding no other way to escape, the trio stopped a two-wheeler ridden by one Nitish and got his down. Then the culprits sped away in the two-wheeler.
In this connection, a team of City crime bureau (CCB) police, led by Valentine arrested Dhanaraj Poojary (23), a resident of Permanki Patrakodi near Vamanjoor and Shashi Poojary (23) of K S Rao Nagar near Karnad in Mulki on Saturday. They were picked from Kulai.
The case has supported the concern of social workers and right-thinking citizens regarding youngsters, those in their early 20s in particular, getting into the crime world so early in life.
