Mangaluru: Two with Past Criminal Record Arrested under Goonda Act, Sent to Jail

Mangaluru: Bharatesh of Bokkapatna and Chandrahas Shetty aka Chandu of Kottara, have been arrested by the city police under the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum-Grabbers Act, 1985, – commonly referred to as Goonda Act.

They have been sent to jail. Bharatesh is an accused in the murder of Bijai Raja and another 7 crimes. Chandrahas is an accused in Bijai Raja murder in 2012 and Sunil murder in 2009.

Once booked under the Goonda Act, prospects of getting a bail are bleak and also even visits to jail by relatives have to be approved in advance by a high-ranking police level.
