Mangaluru: VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throwball Tournament at Sahyadri

Mangaluru: VTU Inter Collegiate Mangalore Zone Throw ball Tournament was Organized by our college on 8th October, 2015 at Sahyadri Campus. Keerthi Nairy, young Inter National level Throw ball player was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function. The tournament started with the invocation ceremony by our students. Dr Antony A J (Vice Principal) welcomed the gathering. Keerthi Nairy inaugurated the tournament by lighting the lamp. In her inaugural address, Keerthi said that sports and studies are both important for an individual and now it is the time for youngsters to achieve their goals in life. Every person must have an aim in life. She concluded her speech by wishing Good luck to all the team.

Dr Umesh M Bhushi (Principal) gave his presidential address. Nithisha Rodrigues (Physical Education Director) delivered the Vote of thanks. Further the Guest inaugurated the court by cutting the ribbon and serving the ball. 8 teams participated in the tournament. The final match was between Sahyadri and St Joseph’s. First set was won by Sahyadri (27-26), 2nd set was won by St Joseph’s (20-25) and the Deciding set was won by St Joseph’s (13-15). The valedictory ceremony was held at 1:30 p.m.

Ashmitha J Rodrigues from Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore was awarded the best thrower, Akshatha was awarded the best receiver and Anusha was awarded as the best all rounder, both from St Joseph’s Engineering College, Mangalore. St Joseph’s Engineering College emerged as the Winners of the tournament And Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management bagged the Runners Up Trophy. The principal gave away the prizes to the Winners and handed over the mementos to the Officials. Sanjay was the Master of ceremony. The event formally ended by singing the National Anthem.
