Addressing the mediapersons Dr Ramakrishna said that to create awareness among the elected members we have organized a workshop for them on the prevention of Non Communicable Diseases at TMA Pai conventional hall on October 5. District minister in-charge Ramanath Rai and the minister for Health and family services U T Khader will inaugurate the workshop.

Now a days hypertension and diabetes has drastically increased, in this regard we need to bring awareness among the people. Elected members are very near to the ward members. If we bring awareness among the elected members they can reach out the people in their respective area.

Joint director of IEC D,epartment of Health and Family Welfare Dr Veena Sampige speaking to the mediapersons said that we are trying to create awareness among the people to prevent non communicable diseases. The health department alone cannot create awareness among the people, but if the people join hands with the health department, it is easy to prevent hypertension and diabetes.

She also said that on October 7, Indradhanush will be launched statewide and the same will be held in Kolar. Indradhanush is a public programme, the Asha workers should come forward and join hands with the health department to make the district 100% immunized. At present DK is 86% immunized and our aim is to make it 100%.

MLA J R Lobo will preside over the programme.
