Dr. G. Shankar: He is a man who has dedicated himself to the service of mankind. For the poor and the needy, for the diseased and the distressed, for the suffering and the suppressed he has been a Good Samaritan rushing to provide timely solace. Thousands of ailing people have got new life by his humane deeds. Thousands of poor students have received education by his financial assistance. He has made many blind ones to see and several lame to walk. His kind heart knows no bounds in extending help to those who are in distress.
Mr. G. Shankar was born in a Mogaveerafamily in Gundmi village of Udupi District. Acute poverty forced him to leave his native village on completion of his primary education. He moved to Bijapur to find his fortune, where on his own initiative he completed graduation. With that background, he chose an independent avocation of a civil contractor. By virtue of sheer hard work coupled with sincerity and single-minded devotion he came up in life slowly but surely. He earned the reputation of being a trustworthy contractor who could shoulder great responsibility and fulfil challenges. He was recognized as one of theimportant contractors of the state. Big projects came his way and that in turn made him a very successful businessman both professionally and financially.
But the transformation from rags to riches did not change Mr Shankar’s values which he had picked up as a young village boy. He continued to be the same humble servant of society with sincere concern for the needy and the downtrodden, the poor and the marginalized, the backward and the oppressed. With a view to extending continuous and systematic support to such people he established ‘G. Shankar Family Trust’ in 2002. Now his entire family is engaged in realizing his dream of ushering in a better society free from pain and poverty.
