Manipal: Two persons – a man and a woman – were relieved of their valuable gold in separate incidents on Saturday.
Saku K Kamath was walking by the second cross road of V P Nagar here around 3-20 pm on Saturday. A man riding a bike stopped by to ask for the location of an apartment.
As she was answering in the negative, the man is said to have grabbed a mangalsutra and another chain from her and sped away. A few metres ahead, another man who was waiting joined and both of them went out of sight. The Maniipal police have registered a case.
In another incident, Balakrishna Subraya Mahale from Koteshwar, who had come to visit a hospital and was returning home in the night, two persons are said to have approached him.
They made him to believe that they were CBI officials. Since some trouble had taken place the previous day at the same spot, he was advised not to wear gold on himself.
He was made to take off whatever valuables he wore – a 4-gm gold ring, and a 22-gm old chain – and wrap it in a handkerchief they gave and rode away.
When he came home, there was no gold in inside the handkerchief. The value of the gold lost was Rs 65,000. A complaint has been filed in the Manipal police station.
