Middle class should have got more relief: Kamal Nath

New Delhi, Feb 29 (IANS) Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Monday said the middle class in the country should have got more relief in the union budget proposals for 2016-17.

“I think the middle class should have got more relief,” the former union urban development minister told media persons outside Parliament House.

The middle class comprises the majority of the country’s nearly 1.3 billion population, he added.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the general budget in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

  1. Budget is always prepared keeping in view of balances between revenues and expenditures and the benefits and hardships that could cause to various segments of population, rich, poor and the middle class. You cannot ignore anyone in preparing the budget as each section of the society is a viable cog in the economic growth. Just making a general statement that middle class should have gotten more relief is a hollowed political statement as the middle class according to Kamal Nath, comprises the majority of country’s population. Hope Kamal Nath is not following the criteria set out by our great planning commission of India which puts the Indian poor as those making less than $1 a day.
