Milan captain Montolivo says derby crucial

Milan, Jan 29 (IANS) AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo admits the Serie A football derby against Inter on Sunday is “crucial” for his side’s season.

Inter are fourth in the Serie A table, having mustered 41 points from 21 matches, while Milan are sixth with 33 points.

The Rossoneri captain was present for a press conference on Thursday to promote Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina as a ‘Match for Peace’ and discussed the season so far, reports

“The regret from the season so far is we’ve failed to make the leap,” Montolivo reflected.

“We haven’t been consistent, and the derby is a crucial game to keep our hopes of a high finish alive.

Milan beat Alessandria in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final this week.

“We’re close to the Coppa Italia final, we’ve worked well,” the midfielder said.
