Militant killed in encounter with security forces in Kashmir

Srinagar, April 29 (IANS) Security forces in north Kashmir on Friday gunned down a militant after a brief exchange of fire with militants, police said.

The militant, who was yet to be identified, was killed in the Kanthpora (Sogam) village of resistive Kupwara district.

The Army and special operations group of the state police cordoned off the area late last evening after a tip off.

The hiding militants opened fire at the surrounding security men triggering a gunfight.

“The encounter has ended, one militant has been killed in the encounter, exact identity of the slain militant is being established”, a senior police officer told media in Srinagar.
