Militant killed in Srinagar gunfight

Srinagar, Jan 11 (IANS) A separatist guerrilla was killed on Monday in a gunfight between security forces and guerrillas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar district, police said.

“Security forces surrounded an orchard in Gassu (Zakura) village of Srinagar district today after specific information was received about presence of militants there.

“After the militants hiding there were challenged, they fired at the security forces triggering a gunfight, during which one militant was killed,” a police officer told IANS, adding that his identity is being established.

“Although firing exchanges have stopped, searches are still going on because there was intelligence information about two militants hiding in the orchard,” the officer added.
