Modi denounces casteism, communalism

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday came down heavily on casteism and communalism, saying they hold no place in India.

“Be it casteism or communalism, there is no place for them. In no way can they be tolerated,” Modi said in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort.

“This is Team India, a team of 125 crore Indians. This is the team that makes the nation and takes our nation to new heights,” he said.

Modi pays tribute to freedom fighters

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to freedom fighters.

“They struggled for India’s dignity. They spent their youth in jail, faced atrocities, but did not leave their determination. I bow down to these freedom fighters from the bottom of my heart,” Modi said in his second Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

Modi said the morning of August 15 is not an ordinary morning.

“It is morning of resolve of 125 crore Indians,” he said.

We want to open doors of banks to poor: Modi

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced he had asked banks to let the poor open accounts because “we wanted to strengthen financial inclusion”.

“The doors of the banks were not open for the poor. We decided this must end. We wanted to strengthen financial inclusion,” he said in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort.

“Bank accounts are essential for integrating the poor into the financial system,” he said.

“After all who are the banks for, they are for the poor,” he added.

Team India to take nation to new heights: Modi (Lead)

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Team India — a team of 125 crore Indians — will take the country to new heights, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

“This is Team India, a team of 125 crore Indians. This is the team that makes the nation and takes our nation to new heights,” he said in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort here.

He said the participation of people had been possible via electronic platform such as MyGov.in or letters from citizens or through his radio address Mann Ki Baat.

“Communication with people … daily Jan Bhagidari is increasing,” he said.

India now has new work culture: Modi

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that his government had unleashed “a new work culture”.

“We have emphasized on a new work culture,” he said in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort here.

In his second August 15 speech, Modi also said that his government had “focussed on social security”.
