Mangaluru: District Minister in-charge Ramanath Rai held a press meet at the Circuit House here, on May 28.
Addressing the mediapersons, Rai said that before BJP came to power, they had promised that they would work for the development of the country since they thought there was no development for 60 years during the Congress’ rule.
“The BJP had been criticising the Congress government but they have not fulfilled the promises made in their manifesto. The BJP government led by Modi is a U-turn government because they came to power by giving false hopes to the people. Modi promised to bring black money back from foreign countries within 100 days and credit Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s account but even after two years, the BJP has been unable to do so.”
He further said that the BJP “fooled” the people during the elections by giving false promises. When the Congress was in power, the BJP leaders got down to the streets and protested against the price hike but now there is hike in price for even the basic commodities. When the UPA government was in power, the petrol prices per barrel was $ 138 in the international market and the BJP leaders from DK protested against the hike in fuel prices. Now, even though the barrel price is $ 40, the BJP government has not reduced the fuel price, he said.
Rai further said, when the Congress government tried to initiate FDI, there was strong opposition from the BJP’s top leaders but after they came to power, they were in favour of even more percentage of FDI. “When we implemented Aadhar card, the BJP’s so called top most leaders from the NDA government criticised us. Later, when they came to power they talk about the benefits of Aadhar card. Is this not a u-turn government?” he questioned.
He alleged that when a Deputy commissioner applauded the work of Jawaharlal Nehru, he was transfered to another district. Jawaharlal Nehru was respected by the entire world. DK got the Nirmala Gram award, the scheme was implemented by the Congress.
He also alleged that the Modi government is spending Rs 10,000 crore for publicity. “Indira Gandhi did not go behind publicity. She worked for the betterment of the poor and the marginalized. There was a strong opposition from the BJP for the Nandikoor power plant but now the project has been given to the Adani group. MRPL, MCF, SEZ, Mangalore University, everything is the contribution of the Congress government.
If the Modi government continues to rule, there will be a crisis in the country. Modi keeps saying that he is not the ‘pradhan mantri’, rather the ‘pradhan sevak’; his jan dhan yojna has not benefited the people,” he added.
