Mogaveers UAE hold World Blood Donor Day

Dubai: Mogaveers UAE, a prominent community organisation organised annual blood donation camp at Latifa Hospital, Dubai (Old AlWasl Hospital) on 14 June 2017, which witnessed a large gathering for a noble cause of blood donation on the World Blood Donor Day.

On 14 June, every year, countries all over the world come together to celebrate the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event is aimed at raising awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products and thanking blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. This year’s campaign focuses on blood donation in emergencies and therefore the slogan is “What can you do? Donate blood, Donate now, Donate Often”.

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood components and to thank donors for a gift that saves lives. Blood transfusions are an essential component of emergency medical care. Adequate blood supply during emergencies requires a well-organized blood transfusion service, which can only be ensured with the collaboration of the entire community and with a donor population committed to voluntary unpaid donations throughout the year.

A single blood donation, as doctors and the American Red Cross believe, can save the lives of up to three people. Doctors, from a single unit of blood, can use several individual components separately, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, etc. Though transfusions of blood and blood products help save millions of lives every year, including during emergencies such as conflicts, natural disasters, and childbirth, it is extremely important that certain safety features are kept in mind, while both donating and even receiving blood.

The blood donation camp was smoothly conducted under the eminent leadership and guidelines of L V Puthran, President of Mogaveers UAE, with the support of senior members of the community.

Blood donation promoter and co-ordintor of the Blood donation campaign around UAE Balakrishna Salian, was present right from the beginning to assist and guide the donors.
