Moodbidri: Shop Assistants Assaulted and Robbed of Rs 5 Lakh near Prantya School

Moodbidri: Chandu (62) and Pranesh (22), employees of a shop popularly known as Saheb shop for decades here, were assaulted and robbed of cash while on their way to the owners’ house around 9 pm on Monday.

The shop is owned by Parkar Mohammed Sharif and brothers, who originally hailed from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, but domiciled in Moodbidri for many long years.

Chandu and Pranesh, trusted employees of the owners, were on their way to hand over the day’s turnover cash. As they were riding their scooter, a gang arrived in an Omni car and waylaid them. They assaulted them and snatched the cash from them and fled the spot.

Their employers arrived on the spot, and after giving them initial treatment, shifted them to a hospital in Mangaluru.

The Parkar brothers are well known in the area and maintain cordial relationship with all communities and classes. One of the brother, Mohammed Irfan had been stabbed with an intention to rob by miscreants way back in 1977. However, they went back empty-handed.

Persons who were aware that the daily collection was being carried at the end of the day may have done the act, say the police.
