Mughal Gardens to open for public on Friday

New Delhi, Feb 10 (IANS) The famous Mughal Gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan, which will be opened for public viewing from February 12 to March 19, were opened for a media preview on Wednesday.

“President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate it formally tomorrow (Thursday) and the gardens will be opened for the general public the day after (Friday),” a Rashtrapati Bhavan official told IANS.

“On many occasions in the past, the president would inaugurate the gardens on the day of the media preview itself, but it will be different this time as he will do it tomorrow (Thursday),” the official said, adding that it was done to give the media a “free hand” in exploring the beautiful and historic gardens.

The gardens will be thrown open to the public on Friday, a day after the inauguration.

The gardens have several beds of roses, including both new and heritage varieties, margined with dwarf trimmed hedges and numerous exotic, bulbous flowering plants.

Flower carpets in magnificent designs will be on display in the central lawns revealing the skill and craft of the gardeners of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
