Mumbai: “Konkan Taram – Jerimeri”, the Konkani Association of St Jude Church, celebrated the 25th Annual Monti Fest at the parish hall here, on September 13.
Konkan Taram – Jerimeri was formed for social, cultural and liturgical activities in the year 1991 under the leadership of Fr Paul Rego, strongly supported by Norbert Sequeira, John Mascarenhas and Wilson Pinto with the celebration of Monti Fest in the traditional way.
Little children and teenagers showered flowers to Mother Mary singing the traditional beautiful hymns, “Sokkod Sangatha Melliam” and “Moriek Hogollsiam”. New corn (Novem) was blessed and the solemn Mass was celebrated by Fr Lancy Pinto ( Director of KT ). Enthusiastic parishioners participated in a large number with their children.
John Mascarenhas, Shaun Harris and the Choir Group presented a melodious singing and music. The Konkan Taram team distributed snacks, sweets, sugarcane and notebooks to children and parishioners. Flora D’Souza arranged a felicitation for Fr Lancy, Fr Gabriel, Br Kanika Dass, Sr Dominica and others. The sponsors like Jovila D’Souza, Noel Veigas and several well wishers and donors were thanked by John Mascarenhas who also presented gifts of appreciation with flower bouquets to Juliana Mascarenhas who made highest collection of funds and also to Flora D’Souza and Monica Rodrigues for second and third highest collection.
SSC toppers, Rachael Fernandes, Hansie Cordhero, Celine Nadar, Anjali Chettiar, Pricilla Chettiar, Alton Pereira, Elizabeth Vakipillai, Priyatarshini Nadar and Steffi Chettiar, who scored more than 70% marks were honoured with a Gift Voucher and Certificate of Appreciation.
Since the association completed 24 years and stepped into its 25th Year ( Silver Jubilee), the Chief Guest Fr Nelson Saldanha (parish priest – Pant Nagar) and Fr Lancy Pinto along with Committee Members Walter D’Souza, Melony Cordeiro, Flora D’Souza, John Mascarenhas, Leo D’Souza, Jacintha D’Souza and John Veigas inaugurated the ‘Beginning of Jubilee year’ of Konkan Taram by lighting the inaugural lamp. Konkan Taram members and their children entertained the crowd with a cultural programme including dance, songs, skits and jokes. The programme was compered by Joyd Rodrigues and Lavina D’Souza.
