‘My Life Made Me A Great Pillar Of Strength’

Abu dhabi, Aug 8: Every human being in this world has his/her strengths and weaknesses. It is upto every individual to build up on their  strengths and minimize their  weaknesses.  Ms.  Nihal who  works as an account executive at Viola Pro Media ? an advertising and PR firm in Abudhabi, wishes to share with Mangalorean.com readers an incident that changed her life and made her a great pillar of strength.

Nihal has two elder brothers working in Denmark, and she is the only support to her parents here in U.A.E.  She describes herself as a sensitive, timid, and a person who used to brood over small things in life.  She discovered her inner-self and true potential when disaster hit their family, that is when her dad fell sick.  She says that till this time she did not know what suffering was. She says that her father was always a very healthy person and recently he was diagnosed with cancer.

“Ours is a very close knit family and so the news shattered us. As mentioned earlier since my brothers were away and nobody to support my mother and self, everyone expected us to breakdown and brood.  Instead I suddenly became strong and withstood the force of the crisis. I immediately became a strong pillar of strength and took over the entire responsibility on my shoulders.” says Nihal.

“It was hard for me to believe, but God gave me a  unique power to overcome this situation. I changed for the better. When my dad was hospitalized indefinitely, I had still not completed my studies.  I was doing my business studies, at the American University in Sharjah, and because of this situation I had to move out of my campus and travel from Abudhabi daily ? A distance of approx. 180 kms.  The physical and mental pressure and trauma of those five months was enormous.  It was beyond human understanding, but to everyone?s surprise ? including myself- I kept going and never looked back.”

I think God works in mysterious ways in everyone?s life.  When we are small our parents take care of us, and then it becomes our moral responsibility to take care of them when we grow up.

Life was not easy at all, travelling from Abudhabi to Sharjah and back, my goal of completing my graduation, and this additional  task chewed up all the time.  I had to set up my priorities right and even though I was good in time management, there were times when I have locked my bedroom door and wept alone.

Inspite of all these hurdles there was one moment in my life that made me feel content.  It was on my graduation day , my dad after undergoing surgery, made it a point to be there, with all the pain he was undergoing, he watched me with so much pride,  and gave me a big round of applause for taking care of him and achieving my goal in life.  This made me realize that no matter who you are, you can still be a better person.
