The common question we are often asked when we hang out together “Are the both of you sisters or friends? The reply is a long “Noooooooo” , we are mother and daughter. The photo that is included in this article was clicked on the day of my Masters convocation. That day I was dressed by my mom, she wanted me to look my best for the occasion.

Mom is a secretary by profession, she had the required knowledge, skills and experience of her profession but she lacked in her education qualifications due to financial crisis that were faced by my grandparents. With passing time from the 90’s to the 2000 era on the education front graduation was a bench mark, thus mom was not able to grow in her career as she was an under graduate.

Survival of the fittest is the job market mantra. I was studying in the higher secondary when my mom completed her graduation, thanks to correspondence course from the university and support of my family to help her add on another achievement to herself of being called a graduate. As a requirement to meet family needs and priority, mom had to keep up with work hence could not make it for her convocation, but was very much excited for the day when I was going to have my convocation.

18th October 2014, mom lived that day as her own when I was wearing the cap on my head and receiving my Masters degree on stage. She was there with me excited and happy. She is the support and the back bone of me completing my Masters and working simultaneously. Being an optimistic woman that she is, her approach to life is her survival game to all her achievements and downfalls during the past 50 years for her life.

I would conclude by saying “My mummy is the Strongest”. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!
