Tuluva people and experts from all over the world will arrive for the World Tulu Convention. The registration will begin from October 15. Those who register will get lodging and other facilities. Anybody can register as a delegate in any of the colleges in the districts. A cluster of 19 management groups have been formed to see smooth sailing of the convention. On this occasion a special portal has been launched which gives information on the convention. Mrs. Hemavathi Heggade launched the website www.vishwatulusammelana.com. Others who were present on the occasion included Hashendra Kumar, Yashovarma, Dr. Mohan Alva, Tulu scholars Palthady Ramakrishna Achar, Dr. Vaman Nandavar, Seetharama Kulal and others.

Speaking to the presspersons later Dr. Heggade said some vested interests in the name of development were trying to divert the Nethravati river from west to east which is going to doom the Dakshina Kannada district. He has urged the people of Dakshina Kannada to oppose the project.

He said the rivers always been springs of civilization and by diverting their course will only destroy culture and civilization. He expressed concern over the event of release of money to the survey work to divert the river. He also expressed surprise that the government had not consulted the people of Dakshina Kannada nor they have planned to hold a public meeting.

This World Tulu Convention managing committee has also condemned the project as ‘foolhardy’ and stated that the river turning project will hamper the development of the district and also will turn the district into a desert as it was the only source of sweet water to the district. Fishermen leaders and farmers will be wiped out the committee has averred.

Development of Tulu in mordern days depends upon mass communication. Tuluvas need full fledged sattelite T.V. This is the most effective medium of imparting & developing Tulu . This issue has to be taken up during Tulu convention . So that intrested people & financial sound people can join hands .
Language like kannada which actualy has only 52% kannadigas in Karnataka has around 21 full fledge T.V channels . Where as Tuluvas sum upto 92% in Tulunad region , Sad thing is that we do not have even one full fledge TV channel. Please take up this issue more seriously.

A united Tulunad district will unite all the people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi irrespective of religion, caste or creed under one cause. At the moment, there is too much division on religion and politics, simmering between the various communities and people from South Kanara are more learned, educated, refined (and even better looking) than all the other kannadigas/ ghattis who are very rude and arrogant and totally cultureless. I see all these gowdas in bangalore who misbehave and are generally rustic in their behavior. We do not need outsiders to tell us who we are and how to behave. Mangaloreans are known the world over as efficient managers and succesful entrepreneurs and part of it is becuase of our culture, and our culture is tulu and not kannada!

We too do not want Gowdas, Ghattis and North Indians coming and taking jobs from us.

Tuluvas all over will rejoice to know about holding of World Tulu Convention in December. Tulu speaking people in large number should attend and make the convention a grand success. As Mohan Suvarna said this convention is required to emphasise the need to save Tulu language. BALLE MATHERLA BALLE, TULU SAMMELANOGU. JAI TULUVERENKLU PANLE!

I would have also loved to have our DK named as Tulunad district. The name DK is meaning less to our place. Just what i fell is that our karnataka govt. is well aware that if it permits to learn TULU lessons/scripts in schools then there is always a danger of asking a seperate name/state etc etc and also change in offical communication language /records /display boards etc... Any how good programmes conducted to save our language of this tiny place so called TULUNADU.....

Convention like this one on Tulu language must be organised on a regular basis. This is a good way to preserve Tulu culture and values. We should also demand for official language status for Tulu atleast in South Kanara and Udupi districts and Co-Official language status all over Karnataka.

Dear Mohan Suvarna ..what u said is 100% correct ...even i support for this cause ..DK should be renamed going ahead i will say a seperate state too to bring back the past glory of olden TULUNAD and TULU language/culture. Any way happpy to hear about TULU being started in school with its own scripts, but without grants from karnataka govt. I support for anything good to preserve our mothertongue.. I hope there will be a lot of non Tuluvas from DK to support this. Good thing on www.vishwatulusammelana.com provides info on the TULU script. Jai Tulunad.
MOHAN SUVARNA, India Jul 24, 2009
GOOD NEWS, THIS IS REQUIRED TO SAVE THE LANGUAGE "TULU". THE NAME DAKSHINA KANNNADA TO OUR DISTRICT SHOWS THAT TULU IS SUBMERGED IN KANNADA, INSTEAD WE NAME THIS AS TULU NADU DISTRICT. THIS WILL AT LEAST REMEMBRED BY THE TULUVAS IN FUTURE.
