Sullia: The first showers of the season took their first toll in the taluk. Rain, lightning and thunder was experienced in different places on Sunday, April 8 evening.

Girija (35), wife of Babu and resident of Kukkujadka colony near Chokkady in the taluk, died when hit by lightning. She was preparing food for the night in the kitchen and was grinding the spices. Lightning hit a tree next to her house and the current passed through the electrical wiring to the house. She is said to have died on the spot.

Her husband, son and daughter also inside the house but were far from the affected side of the house. Hence they were saved.
