Mangalore: KMC Hospital, Mangalore will observe World Blood Donor's Day on 14th June, by organizing a blood donation camp at KMC Hospital, Ambedkar Circle from 9 am onwards. Leading by example Sri Nalin Kumar Kateel, M.P for Dakshina Kannada will donate blood and inaugurate this social cause. Various members from Institutes, Corporates, Clubs and associations will also be a part of this Voluntary Blood Donation Camp.
Dr.Purnima Rao, Blood Bank Director stated that “Blood is a life saving resource that is always in short supply-hardly ever wasted. People who are in the age group of 18-60 years and free from major diseases can donate blood. A person will have to undergo a mini medical examination to determine their hemoglobin, weight, BP, cardiac status etc. before they can donate blood.”
KMC Hospital Blood Bank is the first Blood Bank in Karnataka to be accredited by NABH. The Blood Bank offers round the clock services geared to deliver excellent and efficient patient care. All blood collected through donation is checked for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis & Malaria. Grouping and cross matching is mandatory and done for every blood issue. In exceptional cases like Thalassemia, Hemophilia, Sickle Cell Anemia & HIV +ive patients where the patient requires regular blood transfusion, KMC Hospital Blood Bank provides 100% subsidy.
Dr.Sunil Deshpande, Senior VP Operations urged the public to participate in this social cause, donate blood and save upto 3 lives. A healthy person can donate blood every 3-4 months, he said. |
