Udupi: Shijit (28), the local cameraman working for TV9 Kannada news channel, was assaulted by a group of unidentified miscreants here on Wednesday, June 13 night.

Shijit, after attending the house-warming ceremony of a friend in the company of other friends, was returning home on his bike alone. Around 10-40 pm, his bike was overtaken by three persons riding another bike near the Sharada Kalyana Mantap at Kunjibettu.

They reportedly splashed chilli powder into his eyes. As a result Shijit lost balance of the vehicle and fell to the ground. The miscreants hit him with batons and iron rods and fled. The passersby rushed him to the government hospital.

Shijit has said that the trio might have attacked him with intention to kill with some old score to settle.

A case has been registered in the town police station.
