Udupi: Sevenththree-year-old Soorikumeru K Govinda Bhat of 'Dashavatara' fame, has been into active Yakshagana for the past 63 years. In recognition of his contribution to the field of Yakshagana art, Udupi Govinda Vaibhava Samiti will felicitate him in Rajangana, informed Samiti secretary Vasudev Ranga Bhat.
He also said that on June 18 Shri Vishvavallabha Tirtha Swamiji would inaugurate a seven-day Yaksha Sambhrama, and the function will be presided over by state transport commissioner T Shyam Bhat. Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy president Prof M L Samaga, Kateel temple trustee Harinarayanadasa Asranna, enrepreneur Pramod Madhwaraj and Yadava Kotian will be chief guests.
Director of Dr P Dayanada Pai and Satish Pai Yakshagana study centre of Mangalore University Dr K Chinnappa Gowda will inaugurate 'Kalopasana Vaibhava' on June 24.
Dr M Pabhakar Joshi will preside over the function and Krishnamurthy Kavathaya, Sannambala Vishweshwar Bhat, Hiranya Venketeshwara Bhat will unfurl the multi-faceted personality of Govinda Bhat.
In the second session, Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat, Dr A Narayana, and Dr K Mahalinga Devu Hanehalli will interview K Govinda Bhat. Youth mimicry artistes will present the glimpses of the popularity of Govinda Bhat on this occasion. Later on Govinda Bhat's most loved Kaushika 'taalamaddele' will be staged.
The valedictory will be grced by Shri Vishwatirtha and Shri Vishvesha Tirtha Swminis. Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat will preside over the function, Dharmasthala D Harshendra Kumar will deliver his message . Music Nritya Academy president Vaijayanti Kashi, Dr Bhaskarananda Kumar, P Purushottam Shetty and Tallur Shivarama Shetty will be the chief guests. Kumble Sunder Rao and Krishnamurthy Kavattar will give introductory speeches.
The entire programme will be videographed and the copies will be made available to research scholars and yakshagana enthusiasts. A documentary on Bhat, video clippings in the archives of RRC, MGM College will be screened and special pictures will be exhibited. Art enthusiasts would hold Satsanga with Govinda Bhat and the entire package consists of a variety of programmes.
Committee president Tallur Shivarama Shetty, honorary adviser Murali Kadekar, secretary Ganaraj Bhat, secretary Prof. Vitla Harish Joshi and Vidya Prasad were present.
