Bantwal: Harish (39) an autorickshaw driver from Kunjatbail, Mangalore, died in a tragic road mishap near Mani on Sunday, June 17 evening.

Harish had reportedly arrived with family in his rickshaw all the way from Mangalore to attend a birthday party at Kadeshwalya on Mani-Uppinangady road . While on his way back with them, his vehicle collided with an Eicher lorry at Gadiyara.

While Harish is said to have died on the spot, Praveenchandra (37), a passenger has sustained severe injuries. Another five in the rickshaw, including women and children, were slightly injured.

Eyewitnesses said that it was raining heavily and the visibility on the road was very low. The rickshaw entered the highway from the road joining from the Kadeshwalya village and the lorry hit it head-on.
In spite of pouring rain, the residents around and motorists passing by did a great job in ensuring that the injured were rushed to hospitals in Mangalore at the earliest.
