Mangalore: An unidentified person had been knocked down and killed on the spot by a speeding bus on Dr Shivarama Karanth Road at Balmatta on Monday, June 18.
The man was believed to have been walking by the side of the road towards the Light House Hill Road bus-stop near the MCC Bank, on his way back from the KMC hospital towards home. But since he did not have any identity card or mobile phone on him at the time of the mishap, he could not be identified even until late Monday evening.

On getting the information from the pictorial report published in Mangalorean.com, a reader is said to have passed the information to persons concerned and finally the family came to know about it. They were already concerned because he had not returned home. He was identified as Vasu Poojary of Padil-Bajal.
The family members arrived at the Wenlock hospital mortuary and identified the person. They claimed the body and took it home for final rites on Tuesday, June 19.
The hospital and police personnel, speaking to our correspondent, stressed the importance of carrying at least a copy of the voter's ID when senior or less educated persons leave home alone.
