Moodbidri: Three male and three female students of BBM stream of a college in Mangalore had gone on a private excursion in cars and bikes to Kalasa in Chikmagalur district on Wednesday, June 20. They had not informed their homes about the trip.
While on the way back, a bike skidded and a girl on the pillion fell off, sustaining fracture in back and spine. The 108 ambulance from Kalasa ferried her across to Moodbidri, and shifted her to the 108 Arogya Raksha Kavacha ambulance under DK jurisdiction.
The girl, in spite of her grave injuries, was said to have been in her senses while being brought to Mangalore. She removed all her gold ornaments on her and handed them over to the Moodbidri ambulance personnel for safe custody.
Her mother could arrive only after she was admitted to a hospital and treated. Displaying extraordinary honesty and integrity, the 108 personnel Prasanna Kumar, Gururaj, Eranna and Rajesh handed over all the ornaments to the mother.
Their gesture was well appreciated by the family and others around. The ambulance staff said that in the past there had been a few cases in which such valuables were not given to the accident victims or their families. |
