Bantwal: Thieves broke into the house of Ravindra Shetty, a physical education teacher in Modankap of Bantwal Mooda village here on Thursday, June 21 and made away with 28 gms of gold jewellery and Rs 550 in cash.

The loss apart, what has surprised the residents is that it has taken place in broad daylight, when Shetty was out on duty. The theft came to light when he returned home in the evening. A case has been filed at the town police station.

Incidentally, a similar theft had taken place in the same house during daytime about three years ago. It may be recalled that earlier this week there were thefts at Melkar, about two kilometres from here in two shops on national highway 75.
