Kasaragod / Manjeshwar: The personnel of Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) and the revenue department were stopped by the locals here as they arrived at the Karnataka -Kerala boundary at Nandar Padavu in Varkady panchayat on Wednesday morning.
The officials were stopped by the locals and not allowed to carry out the survey assignment which was in its final stage. The people who would lose their land were already issued notices. The villagers who were issued these notices along with a committee formed to agitate against the gas pipeline assembled at Nandar Padav since morning. When the GAIL and revenue officials reached the spot, the villagers took up the cudgels against them.
Manjeshwar panchayat vice president Arshad Varkady, agitation committee leader Doomappa Shetty, Varkady gram panchayat member Fauziya, other committee members Vittal Shetty, Muhammed Hasanbail, Tharnath, Abdurrehman, Ashraf K K, Abbas Odamgallu, V K Bhaskar and Satish were present. The villagers also submitted a memorandum against the pipeline construction to the officials of GAIL and revenue department. |
