| Team Mangalorean, Bangalore Bangalore: Four officers namely GS Jagadeesh, CM Mallikarjuna, D Muniappa and Manjunath Kutta, who were working at various government departments were convicted and sentenced jail time by Special Lokayukta Court Judge Justice NK Sudhindra Rao on June 30, for their involvement in bribery cases.
GS Jagadeesh, an assistant executive Engineer of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike was sentenced to three years and six months rigorous imprisonment, along with Rs. 40,000 fine. Jagadeesh was caught red handed in 2008, based on a complaint from Anil Kapoor, the Managing Director of Rex Theater on Brigade Road, Bangalore. Jagadeesh had demanded Rs. six lakh bribe to be paid in four installments after the completion of a building constructed by Kapoor. He had earlier been paid Rs 6.5 lakhs during the construction of the building. Jagadeesh was trapped accepting bribe on Brigade Road near the construction site.
D Muniyappa, a tax inspector who was caught accepting bribe in 2005, was sentenced to a simple prison term of one year and six months, and also fined Rs 20,000.
CM Mallikarjuna, Deputy Controller of Legal Metrology department was sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment and Rs 6000 fine, also for accepting bribe.
Manjunath Kutta, a First Division Assistant at Department of Health and Family Welfare who was trapped in 2007 accepting bribe, was sentenced 2 years prison term and fined Rs. 1000 |
