Udupi: District district and sessions judge Narenra Kumar Gunaki pronounced a significant judgement on June 30 in sentencing Sukesh Hegde (33), accused of killing his father over a property dispute in 2011, for life term in jail.

His father Raviraj Hegde, while at sleep at the house of Narayana Shetty in Jaddinakotlu of Karkunje village in Kundapur taluk on June 3, 2011, was reportedly dragged home by the son and battered with a folding steel chair until he collapsed. Then he banged his father's head on the steel beam until he died.

The wife of the deceased and mother of the accused, Manorama, and eyewitnesses Kishri, Kritarth and Narayana Shetty had testified for the prosecution. Based on their statements, circumstantial evidence and the behavioural background of the accused, the judge declared the charges as proved and sentenced Sukesh Hegde to life imprisonment.

The case was investigated by Kundapur police inspector Madan A Gaonkar and the prosecution case was argued by public prosecutor T  S Jitoori.
