Mangalore: Three Eighth semester Computer Science and Engineering students namely Robin Fernandes, Sumit Ghatage and Maclean Pinto, of Dr MV Shetty Institute of Technology, Moodbidri have created a project that will help tackle the sudden impact of natural disasters.

This project was developed under the supervision of S Mamtha, the Head of the Information and Science Engineering department. The Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Bangalore has approved this project.

This project called the Smart Life Rescue System (SLRS) is designed to bring under control disaster situations in places where the population density is high, uses Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Service for Mobile Communication (GSM) to provide quick relief.

The main features of this project include registration of rescuers and victims, their constant monitoring, thereby providing real time info on them via website and availability of victims information through Internet.

This system helps the rescue operators identify the affected areas and also provides them the easiest and shortest routes to reach the victims soon.
