Puttur: A jeep transporting a group of persons from Anantadi to Uppinangady collided head-on with a bus plying from Mangalore on Thursday, July 12 evening.

Two persons, including the jeep driver, died in the mishap, which took place at Perne between Mani and Uppinangady on NH 75.

The deceased have been identified as Kamala (60), who died on the spot, and jeep driver Jagannath (42), who breathed his last on the way to hospital.

The occupants of the jeep, all relatives of a girl from Anantadi, were returning after her marriage ceremony which was held in Uppinangady. The bus was speeding from Mangalore towards Uppinangady.

The names of the injured are Bharati, Sumati, Muttappa Gowda, Ranjani, Timmappa, Nitesh, Seetamma, Narayana Gowda and a two-year-old child, whose condition is said to be critical. They have been admitted to a hospital in Puttur.

The Puttur town police have registered a case.
