Uppinangady: Once again the controversy of Muslim women wearing ' Hijab ' or ' Headscarf ' to college has taken place -- and this time its happening at Sri Ramakrishna First Grade College, Uppinangady. The College management had strictly imposed the rule stating that Muslim women should not wear ' Headscarf' inside the college premises. This new rule has outraged the students to protest against it. On Saturday July 14, who were staging a protest were denied entry into the college premises by the management. So the students carried on their stir outside, and later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding that the college authorities should allow Muslim women to wear the ' Hijab '. In the meantime, the College management is strictly sticking to their rule, and they don't have any plans to modify the rule banning Muslim women wearing ' Hijab ' in College campus. It is also learnt, that some parents are agreeing with the college rule, but their children are against the new rule. The college had decided to impose this rule just to maintain dress code uniformity in college classes.
A few girl students of the college questioned the decision as they claimed that the decision was against their religious belief. |
