Karkala: A case of a husband and wife, who were married eight years ago and have an eight-year-old child, has been referred to the police station here.

Asha (name changed) and Jayaram (name changed), both hailing from Palli and both aged 29 now, had fallen in love almost a decade ago. The attachment had turned physical and the woman got pregnant. Claiming that Jayaram was responsible for it, she had complained to the police.

Local leaders and the police had stepped in and united them in marriage. But then on they lived separately. Asha delivered a baby girl the soon after.

Eight years since, she recently came to know that instead of reconciling with her, he was making preparations to get married to another girl. Upon receiving a complaint from her, the town police summoned Jayaram and made enquiries. His latest stand is that the child that Asha bore was not his at all. When eight years ago he was made to get married to her, he said, he did out of fear of the police and the locals.

Asha has told the police that if at all Jayaram tried to have another marriage, she would storm the venue and stop it at any cost.

The police are facing a dilemma. To solve the problem, they have decided to make Jayaram undergo a DNA test and decide the 'issue' once and for all.
