Udupi: Sixth Batch Of BBM Programmes to be Inducted at Manipal University

Udupi: Department of Commerce, Manipal University will be inducting its Sixth batch of BBM Programmes on July 20, 2012 said Guru Prasad Rao, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Manipal University. He was speaking with media persons here at press club on Thursday July 19, 2012.

M Narendra, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Overseas Bank will inaugurate the event. Arati Porwal, Chief Representative, India Liaison, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) will be the Chief Guest. Dr H N Udaya Shankar, Registrar Evaluation, Manipal University, will preside over the function.

Department of Commerce was established on August 1, 2007 with the launch of its niche programme, BBM (e-Banking & Finance). The University’s objective while founding the department was to impart education along with training and research focused on developing credible and competent professionals for the banking and financial sector in India and abroad.

The Department received University approval to introduce two new courses i.e. BBM (Financial Markets) and BBM (Professional). BBM (Financial Markets) was introduced in the academic year 2011 and BBM (professional) will be introduced in the academic year 2012. During these three-year programmes, apart from classroom learning, students are also given practical exposure through frequent industry interactions and internship with reputed banks and financial institutions.

The curriculum is given effect to, by a distinguished team of faculty combining academic excellence and real world experience with dedication and commitment. The outcome of this effort can be seen in the form of placements in reputed investment banks, financial services organisations, consultancies and commercial banks in India and abroad. The following infrastructure facilities support the teaching -learning process, State of Art classrooms with Audio Visual facility, Fully Fledged Computer Lab with Internet facility, Departmental and Central library facilities with study /discussion rooms.

The department has attracted students from more than 16 countries and from all parts of India. The Department also attracts Diploma/Advanced Diploma holders in the area of Commerce & Management to join our BBM Programmes through Lateral Entry. The students will be directly admitted to the Second Year (III Sem).

Niranjan Prabhu  and Vikram Baliga, Assistant Professors of Department of Commerce, Manipal University were also present on the occasion.
