Mangalore: If you look and drive around the City you will be ashamed to find filthy, smelly and rotten garbage scattered all around the garbage bins, roads and side streets. Residents and businesses have been abusing the garbage system in the City - people don't have the decency to dump the garbage proper in the garbage dumpsters, instead they just toss their garbage bags near or around the bins. Its very pathetic to note how educated, wealthy and decent people of Mangalore could behave in such unmannered way in disposing their garbage off - seems like they lack community pride. You see more garbage scattered around near posh apartments or residential areas than lower level residential areas. Not any more, if you are illegally or unmannerly disposing garbage without the fear of getting caught, get ready to be ashamed of yourself publicly.

Mangalore City Corporation have decided to install hidden cameras in certain garbage dumping areas in order to catch and penalize illegal litterbugs who dispose their garbage improperly. This illegal disposing of garbage has been a regular habit of residents in the City, and has been a ' stinking ' problem for the city. You see more garbage around the garbage bins than in it - people don't have the courtesy to step down of their vehicle and dump the garbage into the bin, instead they simply toss their garbage bags around the bins. Many citizens also abuse their' dumping rights' by disposing bio-waste and dead foetuses in waste bins.

MCC which has already installed a camera near the main dumping site at Pachhanady to deter illegal dumping of garbage, is all set to install roving cameras with a 360 degree angle, near posh residential areas, and also near City Central Market. The images captured on these cameras of people dumping waste illegally will be fed into the MCC website. The images captured on 32 video cameras installed within the MCC premises are already being uploaded on to the website to ensure transparency, according to sources from the corporation department. Also the people caught on the cameras dumping garbage illegally will receive hefty fines. The MCC will save all these captured video images, which may be useful as evidence if people take the corporation to court on this matter.

MCC will also move these cameras from place to place to ensure that citizens do not change dumping places for their waste. Enough is enough - so all you litterbugs who have been dumping your garbage illegally so long in the past, its time for you to straighten up your manners, and try to keep the City neat and clean. If not the City's ' Extra Eyes' will get you and fine you! Beware.
