Mysore: We have seen and heard about many Hindu temples in Dakshina Kannada and also in the karnataka state, during the 'Aati Month' who have been offering special poojas to appease rain God for rain showers to overcome the drought or needed rain for farming purposes.
Now it has been the turn of Catholic Churches to appease rain God for rains. It is learnt that, at St Philomena’s Church, Mysore, one of the oldest cathedrals of the city, and also a famous tourist spot, special prayers had been organised at different intervals, where devotees joined in the prayers to please God to grant them rains. The prayers split into six sessions- thrice in the morning and evening was attended by the people of Christian community in large numbers, which started from Friday July 27.
The first prayer was held from 6 am onwards. Devotional songs were rendered in different languages including Kannada. The prayers were conducted under the leadership of Father John Peter Rego, parish priest Father Williams and assistant priest Vijayraj.
