Karkala: Ratan (15), a I PUC student from Kellaputtige, drowned in the Tellar stream at Attegundi in Tellar village on Saturday, July 28 afternoon.

He was on a visit to a relative's house in Tellar. After half a day's school, he, accompanied by Sanket and Nitish, had gone to bathe in the stream.

They got dragged by the river current and began screaming. A neighbouring resident Sadananda ran to their rescue and succeeded in saving the lives of Sanket and Nitish. Ratan could not be saved.
