Moodbidri: At the general meeting of town municipal council here on Saturday, chief officer Rayappa made a startling disclosure that there were 98 unauthorized constructions within the town limits. He also said that there was political pressure not to take action against them.

He further said that the construction work of three buildings had been halted. "If I am allowed to take action independently, I will have all unauthorized buildings in town demolished. Even if I am transferred from here as a result of it, I will not hesitate to do it," he declared. He also pointed out that certain buildings had been allowed to come up during the earlier tenure of the municipal council.

Members Bhoja Kotian, Shivaraj Rai and Krishnaraj Hegde complained that the town administration which eagerly evicted houses built on 5-cent land did not take courage to act against large buildings and sought an end to discrimination of this kind.

TMC president Ratnakar Devadiga presided over the meeting.
