Mangalore: Five men engaged in work of laying fence around a paddy field near the Dhoomavati daivasthana at Kenjar near Bajpe sustained injuries when they came into contact with a live high-tension power line on Monday, July 30 afternoon.

The workers hail from Aliyoor in Bantwal taluk were putting up a protective fence around the field. A pole of the fencing is said to have touched a low-lying high-tension power line, electrocuting five workers. Among them Dombaya Naik landed very severe injuries and most part of his body is said to have been burnt. Shankar Shetty, Rukmaya Naik, Louis and Kamalaksha Shetty received minor injuries.

The locals protested against MESCOM in front of their office accusing them of negligence in laying low-lying line. Officials arrived at the spot and assured to put up a new tower at a higher place and raise the level of the line within two months.
