Sullia: A rogue elephant which had been playing havoc in the agricultural farms around Subrahmanya during the past two weeks sprang a surprise to many residents by showing up in the early hours of Tuesday, July 31 near Biladwara-Kashikatte in the town area. An atmosphere of scare and insecurity prevailed for a few hours.

The pachyderm surfaced from the side of the house of Uday Monteiro, passed through the new parking area and the police quarters vicinity and then marched towards the forest through Ontegoodu.

The nearest approach towards the town that the elephant had made in the past was up to farms of Mohandas Rai and Kittanna Rai, where it had devoured a number of banana trees.
