Puttur: Hukra Mugera, a watchman at Muthoot FinCorp and resident of Konalu, died when a WagonR car plying from Bangalore to Mangalore hit him at Kolpe, as he was walking by the side of the road on Saturday.

The car hailing from Tamil Nadu, soon after hitting Mugera, went out of the driver's control and rolled over into a ditch in a short distance. The driver is said to have lifted him and put him in a sitting posture and gone back to his car.

When people gathered, they were not aware of the car having hit the man. They helped in lifting the car up and the driver sped away, without informing them about the injuries to the man.

In a short while, the crowd saw Mugera lying nearby and realized that he was hit by the car. He had already died by that time. The police from Uppinangady arrived. They took the details of the car and flashed the information to all police stations. The car was traced and seized in Mangalore and the driver was arrested.
