Mulki: An express bus plying from Mangalore to Udupi and a mini lorry were involved in a head-on collision at Pavanje junction in the early hours of Sunday, August 5 morning.

Raymond D'Souza (45) of Pakshikere, who was driving the mini lorry, died on the spot. Wilfred (34), a co-passenger with him, sustained grave injuries and has been hospitalized.

Raymond bred pigs for slaughter and supply to restaurants and catering industry. He was on his way to collect feed for the animals.

The front portion of the lorry got smashed and the residents struggled to extricate them from the damaged vehicle.

A case has been filed in the police station here.
