Karkala: Two bodies - a male and a female - were found in a well at Tanadagudde on Thursday, August 9. They were later identified as of Prakash Poojary (28) and his wife Chandrakala (28), residents of the same locality.
Neighbours said that they had been spotted leaving the house together on July 27 and were not seen since. It is suspected to be a case of suicide. Since the residents around felt some stench emanating from the well over the past few days, they informed the police. Rural police sub inspector Azmat Ali visited the spot and found the bodies in the well.
Incidentally, Prakash Poojary was the main accused in the April 2010 murder of Babuliamma, a senior woman who lived alone in Borgalgudde in Nitte. He had come out on bail a few months ago.
It is thought that being unable to face the stigma of being a killer he decided to end his life along with his wife. Besides, Chandrakala was ailing for some time and was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Karkala. Financial crunch also could have led to the decision, said the neighbours. |
